Adding a partner to your Facebook Business Manager account is an important part of managing your business.

With the right setup, you can collaborate and communicate with partners better.

Why Add Agency As A Partner Instead Of Individually As People

When adding a partner to your Facebook Business Manager ad account, it is important to assign "partner" access and not add them individually as "people".

Adding new partners go to your business settings.

When working with an agency partner, it is possible that they may have multiple agency team members working on your ad account.

By adding the agency as a partner they can manage permissions and access levels for each account they are managing.

This ensures that your agency can grant the right permissions to the right people on your Facebook ads account.

Providing partner access will help both you and your partner. This should reduce the back-and-forth required to provide their people access to your Facebook ad account. As well as allow your partners to restrict the access level that their team members have to your ad account.

5. Now that you've added your partner's business ID, you can assign them assets within your Business Manager account.

Below are the four assets that will always be needed by any marketing partner running your ad account.

  • Facebook page - The Facebook page is necessary so that Meta knows which page the ads are coming from.

  • Instagram account - If you wish to run ads on Instagram you will need to share this as well. Both Facebook and Instagram ads can be run from the Facebook ads manager, found within your business manager.

  • Facebook Pixel (Meta Pixel) - This is used for tracking visitors to your website, without it installed your marketing agency will not be able to track the results of your ad spend.

  • Facebook Ad Accounts - If you have multiple ad accounts that the marketing agency is managing, share all the ad accounts.

Choose which assets to assign to your new partner.

Extra Notes On Sharing Assets With Partners

A few notes on sharing that may apply to you.

You cannot share your business manager with a personal account. The partner you are sharing with will need a business manager to receive access. If you need help creating a business manager you can read our guide.

Additional items you may wish to share are:

Catalogues - You will want to share this with your partner if you wish to run, Dynamic Ad For Broad Audiences (DABA Ads).

Block Lists - If you have a list of sites that you have maintained you can share this.

Offline Events Set - Bring this up and share it with your digital marketing agency if you have retail stores that you wish to run ads for. Offline event sets can allow you to track the sales, in-store, that come from your Facebook ads.

If you need additional help the ad agency you are assigning assets to should be able to tell you what level of access they need for each item.

Below are some general guidelines for what level of permission to grant.

General Rules Of Thumb For Providing Access To Assets

First, when in doubt give a lesser access level. Then have your partner explain why they need you to provide access to additional permissions or assets to run your Facebook ads.

For the Facebook page, you can share Facebook access.

Provide Facebook access not task access.
Facebook Access

For the Instagram account - You will want to grant ads and insights at the minimum. This will allow your agency partner to edit ads on Instagram and view ads results.

Ad and Insights will cover most agency partners.
Instagram Access

For the Facebook Pixel you can grant manage Pixel access. This will allow your partner to create or install your Pixel if you have not done so already.

Full control is probably best for the agency if you are not technically minded.
Pixel Access

For your ad account, you will want to provide everything in partial access.

Providing full control will allow the partner to edit payment options and other business information you may not want them to have.

Generally, you should reserve this for an internal employee who you want to access reports on your ad spend, have admin access, and generally act in an admin or finance role.

For most advertisers everything under partial access should be fine.

Not Looking To Add A Partner, But Instead Need To Add People

You know now everything you need to provide business access to your agency partner.

As you read through this you may have realized you need to provide access to "People" and not "Partners". Adding additional "People" to your Facebook business manager is pretty similar to the process we just went through.

However, if you would like additional help you can read our post on adding people to your Facebook Business Manager.
