Looking to run Facebook ads, but want to target a specific country, a certain state, or a specific city? You can do that with Facebook’s location targeting feature.
Using location targeting Facebook determines which specific users fall within the different locations you set up and shows ads to those Facebook users.
This can allow you to run some very specific ad campaigns and only show these Facebook ads to the most relevant audiences.
What is Facebook Location-Based Advertising?
Facebook location targeting is a form of advertising that allows you to target people based on their geographic locations.
You can target people in any country, region, state, city, or even zip code.
This type of advertising has become increasingly popular as businesses look for cheaper and more efficient ways to reach their ideal customers.
For the brick-and-mortar business retail store you can use this to target only the people in the physical location of your store.
For the online retailer, that is looking to use Facebook location targeting, they can use Facebook geo-targeting to niche down into a designated market area like country, state, or city.
How to Set Up Facebook Ads Location Targeting?
To set up your Facebook ad to target people in an exact location.
You will need to go to your business manager and edit your ad set.
Your ad set is where you set up all your Facebook targeting and other demographics.
To do this...
1. Log into your Ads Manager account on Facebook.
2. Navigate to the “Ad Set” tab in the left-hand menu.

3. To define your targeted location scroll down to the locations section.

4. From here, you can edit your location targeting.

5. If you have specific countries, regions, cities, or zips you would like to target you can search those locations.
6. While here you can also decide on one of the 4 location segments to target.
Do you want to target people who are living or who have been recently in this location? This location segment is broad and a great place to start if you are new to Facebook geo-targeting on your ads.
People living in this location? Have a local coffee shop or physical store in a city. Target a specific business address and create a one-mile radius around your address to reach more customers.
A location people recently visited? This option works great for any time-sensitive sales. Have a retail location people recently visited? Use a Facebook ad to target nearby customers with a promotion.
Finally, you can choose to target a location people traveling to have been to. Maybe you have an offer that you would like to show people in a certain radius. Using radius targeting we can show a Facebook ad to anyone who was recently in a location. This could be used to target a certain location like a hotel where people stayed and ask for a review or offer a discount on their next stay.

7. If you want to set a radius for who sees your Facebook ads, enter a location, like my hometown of Santa Barbara, you can then set a radius around your city.

8. That's it you have the basics of location targeting down. Set up the rest of your ad set as normal and publish your Facebook ad.
