If you have a Facebook Business Manager account you may have noticed that you can add system users to your Business Manager.

What is a system user and how is this different than adding "People" or "Partners"

Facebook System Users represent systems or software that are making API calls to your Facebook business manager account.

The token can be used to take automated actions or programmatic actions on your Facebook page or ads.

System users are used so that you can generate a token giving access to your Facebook ad accounts, Facebook page, and business manager settings without having to assign individual people as admins.

What Can System Users Do?

System users can generate tokens or revoke tokens. If you do not have a Facebook app connected to your business manager, system users are not for you.

System users will have permissions that you can set to limit the amount of access that they have to your account: Admin or Employee access.

This is useful in situations where you only want a system user to be able to perform certain actions and not others.

How To Create System Users

Adding a new Facebook system user is easy and very similar to adding "People" or "Partners".

1. To add a new system user to your business manager open up your Facebook business settings and open up the drop-down for users

2. You should see a blank getting started page, that says you don't have any system users.

3. Select the add button and accept the terms and conditions for adding a new system user.

4. Add a system user name. Then choose if you want to add an admin system user or employee, which are regular system users.

5. Create the system user.

Remember that system users are used in conjunction with Facebook apps. If you haven't connected or created an app ID you will get an error message.

6. The new system user can now generate or revoke tokens to be used with your connected app.
